![]() ![]() Mussio Ventures Presents - Fishing BC. Published by Mussio Ventures Ltd. Edited by Russell Mussio. $15.95 CDN. Other books cover the Lower-Mainland, Thompson-Nicola, Cariboo, and Vancouver Island South. That should keep you going for a lifetime - and if it isnt, dont worry, the Mussio brothers, Wesley and Russell, will probably have another guide book out before youre done. The Fishing BC series is a perfect compliment to their Backroad Mapbook, which shows you all the winding, dirt, gravel and mud roads that lead to so many of the best lakes. But once youre there, where do you start? The Fishing BC series was put together to answer just that question. The guidebooks are a collection of depth charts that show you where the shoals, drop-offs and creek mouths are located. If youre fishing in the dead heat of summer, youll want to take note of the where the deep pockets are. Those of use who routinely go searching for new fishing lakes in the rugged B.C. outback know that on any given body of water there are a lot of places fish arent. The depth charts wont guide you straight to the hot spots, but they certainly will make it easier for you to narrow down the likely places to fish. And if you are fishing in a kick boat, that can make your day, because without a heads up on where to start, you could spend hours trolling unproductive waters before you find that mid-lake shoal. The Okanagan edition covers over 100 lakes in the region, from popular water sports lakes like Kalamalka, where youll have to dodge speed boats in the summer, to small lakes up in the mountains - where you can retreat while your family lies on the beaches in the valley bottom. State Lake might catch your eye, for example. The guidebook describes it as a secluded hike in fishing lake . . .one of those dark water lakes. . .in the spring, you can expect mayflies, caddis and some other unique hatches such as flying ants. The books have hatch guides in the front section and each map page offers some key information on access, facilities, lake elevation, and of course, the fishing, including noting the species present, average size, and stocking history. The Fishing BC guidebooks are well researched and nicely put together. If you want a collection of maps for a region, this is a good place to start. The books are available in most fishing tackle stores. For more information you can contact the publishers at: info@backroadmapbooks.com
