Great site. As a very concerned x comercial fisherman I would like to say we have to stop the farming of salmon in the open waters of British Columbia now. Its almost too late. As a side note I have been working in the Arctic over the last year. In a conversation with the local fisheries biologist I asked if he could confirm local rumors I had been hearing of pacific salmon being caught in the Arctic Ocean over the last few years. Guess what.

Thank God somebody cares. When it comes to money and politicians, nothing is sacred, as long as they have their important high paying jobs! There is no way have I ever, or, would I ever, purchase their Atlantic salmon. Soon we will have nothing left of our wild salmon, as they used to be. Take a lot of pictures for our grandchildren so that they will know what a salmon is. (or was)
Mrs Linda Lavigne <mitsu2@direct.ca>
Langley, B.C. Canada -

It is beyond my belief that an "Informed Government" could put $$ ahead of health and welfare of all living spicies. I also do not understand why they have to use "Atlantic Salmon." Maybe the same health problems would arise from Pacific Salmon? But it seems to make sense to use a local fish, that also needs some help to survive?
Greg Mathews <greg.mathews@telus.net>

Thank-you for the information and insight on the issue of salmon farming. An avid listener of Rafe Mair, I have been thirsty for more info. Given the evidence of wrongdoing, is there anyone or any group that can be charged in a court of law? Please excuse my ignorance and simplistic approach, but could an activist group such as the Stealhead Society, etc, level a charge of some type against the apropriate gov't ministry? Or, along the same lines, could such a group state on public record what environmental damages they see coming, thus having a basis for a future neglegence charge if and when said damages occur in the furture? Thank-you for everything.

Being as nieve as we are about ecology, we should know better than to test the boundaries of an eco-system without knowing how badly we could affect it. As we have no way of knowing the reprucusions of our actions and no way of knowing how or if we can fix any problems we create, fish farming should be banned regardless of the economical situation of our province.

A River Never Sleeps Editors, I've just completed reading the interesting pitches about the obviously dedicated staff (partners?) of "A River Never Sleeps", I admit to holding, possibly expecting, reservations about some of the generalizations expressed, to their interviewers, by the promising writers. Like many a jealous oldtimer, I'm poised to challenge brash outpourings. Be warned, fellows, among us oldsters there still are a few who own red pencils and can, figuratively, be provoked into weilding them on the net.

I am a fisheries biologist for Elwha Klallam Tribe and an avid proponent and practitioner for NW salmon restoration. How about an article updating whats going on in the process of removing the Elwha dams. Now that Gorton is out of the senate (but possibly our next Sec. of the Interior) will the process to remove both dams simultaneuosly proceed or will the forces of evil prevail to force the one dam at a time removal scenario (would about double the cost and could cause the process to fail, which is of course what certain politcos would like to see happen). As much light as possible needs to be focused on this issue as soon as possible. If Bush wins the presidency he should be gently encouraged to appoint someone more moderate to the Interior post than Gorton who will be another James Watts.

I wasn't expecting a site like this. The design of this site is the greatest, and the contents are better than any other sites!

Glenn Baglo has kept us posted on the developments and new issues of *A River Never Sleeps*, this is appreciated by many. I was reviewing a video taken on the Bulkley River and reading the report on the same river in this issue of *A River Never Sleeps*. We certainly hope the folks who read this article will appreciate being made aware of this. I can only hope the Scientific Process are grounded in solid research and not left to Serendipity. I appreciate the effort put forth by the folks involved in *A River Never Sleeps*.
